Re: Lets go flying!

Hi Steve!

Tom, My persistent audio problems just make flying no fun. Dunno how to fix 'em.

Re: Away from the Office

The flights must not have been PIC if there were "way too many."

Re: Expect FL### 10 minutes after departure

I guess it's one of those situations where you've got to use your virtual PIC authority, because it's not black and white. In real-life, if you're in VMC and go NORDO, you find someplace good to land, right? In IMC, or on Vatsim, then what you did seems perfect (it'd be "not fun" if all of the traff...

Re: Expect FL### 10 minutes after departure

NORDO procedures on Vatsim can lead to interesting decisions and discussions, especially when it's because of a non-real-world situation such as the controller stepping away.

Were you VMC or IMC? And did you remain on runway heading when you initiated your climb?

Re: Pietenpol Air Camper

I'm up to about two flights a week now. My voice rig is oddly unreliable, which sucks some of the fun out of it (I suspect as much for the controllers as for me), so I don't currently want to fly that much. Eventually I'll find the right magic spell and it'll work again.

Pietenpol Air Camper

I am in love.

Pietenpol Air Camper (slide show/video)

I understand it can be built for under 10 grand, including the engine. Supposedly requires of its builder only "ordinary" construction skills.

"taxi to" is on its deathbed

From avweb : Effective June 30, 2010, the FAA is deleting the term "taxi to" from taxi and ground movement operations as it pertains to aircraft cleared to taxi to an assigned takeoff runway. The change requires controllers to issue explicit runway crossing clearances "for each runway (active/inacti...

Re: going for long XC tomorrow

That's got to be one of your coolest flights. The block altitude was smart, but using it to skim the clouds seems like genius.

Re: $45 for a Carry-On? This is getting ridiculous!

If they really wanna improve the customer experience, they should have cattle prods that engage during the boarding process if ppl don't clear the aisle while they put their items in the overhead. Try as I might, I have a hard time keeping it together as one person after another stands in the cente...

Re: Everyone Ok...

In Phoenix, just the barest, briefest shaking. Dad and I, installing a gate, did not know anything had happened until we were called to the back yard to see the pool water sloshing back and forth. Stepmom said she thought someone was moving her chair back and forth, then she got dizzy. S waves are f...
