What's to Come in 1713

Thu Nov 30, 2017 10:20 pm

Hi all,

AIRAC 1713 is being released in about a week's time. With it come a few changes to procedures, primarily at LAX. 2017 wouldn't truly be over until we got one final sampling of metroplex, right? Anyway, here's what we've got going on:

LAX:
The BASET now has a 6L/R transition along with the old 210 heading off of REEDR that still goes to 7L/R.
In the first round of legacy procedure removal, the RDEYE and OLDEE are being deleted. [*]
The SADDE no longer has you track the 068 radial after SMO, and instead has a 070 heading that we assign anyway. Also, there's a 7000 or above restriction there too. Additionally, the speed at SYMON is changing to 250K from 280K.
The DARRK is parting ways with the FICKY transition. Also, RIZIN is now a transition, I assume to enable more options for late night routings after the LADYJ becomes unavailable.
Speaking of the LADYJ, the top altitude has been changed to 8000. Doesn't matter because we'll still give climb via except maintain 5000. An at or above 7000 restriction was also added at MLIBU.
There's a new departure procedure called the SUMMR. Appears to be some sort of alternative DARRK, also has a FICKY transition. I'm not entirely sure what its purpose is, but it appears to go a bit further out over the Pacific before turning north. There was a brief period of time a couple of months ago where the VTU was used again over the DARRK, so maybe that has something to do with it. We'll see what happens.

SAN:
The CWARD got upnumbered, but it appears to just be a narrative change.
The PADRZ got upnumbered as well, but again there appears to be no change.

SNA/LGB:
The DSNEE (pg. 2) got several changes. Multiple restrictions leading into DSNEE are different, and a few of the waypoints on the LGB routing changed location but not name. Also, there's a restriction at JWARD now.
The ROOBY (pg. 2) has seen some changes as well. The arrival ends at FYTRR now and splits off into its headings instead of continuing on. Additionally, there are restriction changes leading into ROOBY.

SNA only:
BONKE is no more on the ILS 20R. It's now HUKEM. Apparently, it sounded similar to another fix in the area.
The FINZZ is now restricted to turbojets only.

NZY/SDM:
The CHASR got an upnumbering. Nobody flies this arrival, but there's a noted speed restriction now and a crossing restriction change or two.

SMO:
The runway has been formally shortened to 3500 feet. #SaveSMO

VNY:
The HAYEZ now has the new metroplex transitions.

It doesn't look like there will be any SOP changes apart from ZLA assigning a transition on the BASET arrival and the addition of the SUMMR departure.

Yeah.. about that SADDE.. :(

It's definitely because they are apparently closing KSMO by 2020 or 2025, I can't remember.. GH and FH will be shedding a tear for that, and justifiably so.

That corresponds to the shortening of the runway to 3500, plus with that closure they are supposedly decommissioning the SMO VOR altogether. How that will affect non-RNAV procedures is cause for another round of updates soon.

Speaking of, looks like the RDEYE2 will finally be deleted next cycle, along with the OLDEE1.

SMO is set to close 2028. I'm a little bitter about the whole thing...

The SOP changes have been made. It looks like the SUMMR has been the main departure procedure getting used up to the Bay Area this fine Thursday. Goodbye, RDEYE and OLDEE. You have served us well, but it was WYVIL that ultimately prevailed in the end.

my video maps are already out of date...

Couple of minor SOP changes. Apparently the runway 6L/R transition on the BASET was really meant to replace the RDEYE, so the SOPs have been updated to reflect this. Additionally, the LAX CD SOP has been updated to reflect usage of the DARRK/SUMMR. (thanks DK)
