GA VFR Coast to coast take 2.

Tue Apr 21, 2015 1:37 pm

Hey guys. I'll start out by saying that some of the most fun I've have flying on Vatsim is when a group of us flew single engine GA planes across the country a few years ago. We started in KSMO and ended up in N07 (Lincoln Park NJ) before heading south and then west across the country again. We flew as a group and had about 10 or so planes for every leg. We basically flew a 2 hour leg one evening a week until we ended up on the east coast.

I'm going to do it again starting next week. Please reply here if you're interested and with what evening through the week works best for you and we will plan from there. I'll take care of the flight planning and post the routes plotted on skyvector every week.

Single engine?! Uh, the MiG 21 has one engine, right? Does that count as GA?

Count me in.

LA CTR smooth through here.
I'll probably join for a few legs if I can.

I'll plan the legs to be about 2 hours each. I'll probably plan on flying the Legacy. Depending on what everyone else wants to being along, I can throttle it back but for now I'll plan on a 200kt cruise.

I'll have the first leg posted in the next few days.

Anyone have a preference on what night of the week? All evenings are the same for me.

I'm game! Sounds like a good opportunity to pull the PC12 out :D
Did you guys ever put in ATC requests along the way? Probably not enough folks flying to do so.

Indeed they were.

I didn't end up flying this due to lack of interest. If enough people are on board, I'll start planning it again.

Sam, in the past, we flew it online but didn't bother with ATC unless we went into a controlled airport (which was rare) or needed a Bravo transition, etc.

I was observing the last leg when you all were returning to SMO. I would not mind flying this. It looked like a lot of fun.
